Lighting

My turf piece doesn't light, what can I do?

Keep the pieces dry. In a humid room they soak up moisture and get hard to light. If that happens, dry them in an oven on low heat for a few minutes, and try a steady flame for 5 to 10 seconds. We've made them to balance easy lighting with a slow burn.

Does turf incense set off smoke alarms?

Only if you place it right underneath one. In normal use, no.

What's in Irish Turf Incense?

Almost entirely locally sourced, 100% natural Irish peat. We put the turf through a special process, combine it with an all-natural binder and water, then dry it in special machines for over 24 hours.

What does Irish turf smell like?

If you've ever been to Ireland, you'll know the sweet, unmistakable smell that drifts through the countryside. It's been described as oaky and sweet, with a hint of whisky and magic.

Does turf incense really smell like the real thing?

It's made from the real thing, so yes, it smells like the real thing! No artificial fragrances are used at all.

Are the Turf Wee Bits any different?

No, they are smaller pieces of exactly the same turf incense. Our process makes large and small pieces, and we use the larger ones in our sets and refill packs.

Does turf incense contain chemicals or fragrances?

Zero, zilch, nil, nada, none!

Yes and no! The sale of turf or peat as a fuel in the south of Ireland has been banned by the Irish government, controversially. However, in the north of Ireland, where we are based, there is no such ban.

My Turf piece doesn't light, what can I do?

The Turf incense pieces need to be kept dry, if they are in a humid environment they will absorb moisture and become difficult to light, if this happens, dry them in an oven on low heat for a few mins. Also, try a sustained flame (5-10 secs), this usually helps.
During production, we have found a balance between being easy to light, and not burning too quickly.

Only when placed directly underneath one! Otherwise in normal use, no.
